Working as a freelance director has allowed me to work on a lot of great projects, from music videos to short films. I try to keep things light on set and keep the crew having fun, because otherwise those long production hours can start to wear on the team. If you’re not having fun being a filmmaker, what’s the point?

Music Video – Telihana “All Night”
“Evan directed my last music video and working with him was a dream – calm, collected, organized, creative – it was like working with a very intelligent and well informed best friend. He’s reliable and just delivers amazing work – on time. On set/off set he’s extremely professional, in fact I only have positive things to say! Seriously, with so many different things to think about in a production, it was a blessing to be able to count on someone so trustworthy and clever. And fun! Haha, we had a great time together! I can’t wait to work with him again.”
Telihana, Musician
“Evan was wicked to work with. He brings a lot of ideas to the table, but he’s also willing to collaborate, to listen to his keys and he’s nimble enough to change up his ideas if a monkey wrench gets thrown into things. Any time you’re shooting on location, especially in New York, variables come flying at you a mile a minute and Evan takes it all in stride. A pleasure to work with. Hire him now while you can still afford him.”
Justin Talley, Director of Photography
“Evan Michals is a very pragmatic and organized director, with a good eye for interesting locations. He brings to set with him a relaxed but professional atmosphere that makes both cast and crew comfortable. He is a pleasure to work for, and I look forward to working with him again.”
